Working as a professor in US is a good career in my opinion. Usually, American universities have tenure system. After an assistant professor becomes tenure, no one can fire the professor except the professor commit crime or has legal issue. Although the salary in an American university is not as high as that working for a big company, it is enough to live decently without worrying the risk of unemployment. Plus, with the teaching experience increases, the work is getting easier and needs less time to prepare lectures. Weighting the reward and effort, I think academic career is good, at least, in U.S.A.
I heard that in China, the compensation package is better for teachers at schools with the time goes. Not sure how good it is right now or just a rumor.
