[size=11.000000pt]The objective of the [size=11.000000pt]Policy Framework for Investment [size=11.000000pt]is to mobiliseprivate investment that supports economic growth and sustainabledevelopment. It thus aims to contribute to the prosperity of countries andtheir citizens and the fight against poverty.
[size=11.000000pt]Drawing on good practices from OECD and non-member economies, the [size=11.000000pt]Framework [size=11.000000pt]proposes guidance in ten policy fields identified in the 2002United Nations Monterrey Consensus on Financing for Development ascritically important for improving the quality of a country’s environment forinvestment. It enables policy makers to ask appropriate questions about theireconomy, their institutions and their policy settings in order to identifypriorities, to develop an effective set of policies and to evaluate progress.
[size=11.000000pt]The [size=11.000000pt]Framework [size=11.000000pt]was developed by OECD and non-member participantsin a task force established under the aegis of the OECD InvestmentCommittee as part of the OECD Initiative on Investment for Developmentlaunched in Johannesburg in November 2003.
[size=11.000000pt]The [size=11.000000pt]Framework [size=11.000000pt]was adopted and declassified by the OECD Council, the governing board of the Organisation, and welcomed by Ministers at theirannual OECD meeting in May 2006. OECD and non-member partners willcontinue to work together, in co-operation with the World Bank, the UnitedNations and other interested institutions and with the active engagement ofbusiness, labour and other civil society organisations, to support effectiveuse and future development of the [size=11.000000pt]Framework[size=11.000000pt].
