The Greif Research Impact Award is a $5,000 annual award given to the researcher(s) who published the most impactful entrepreneurship article six years ago in the top management and entrepreneurship journals. Impact is measured as the number of Social Sciences Citation Index citations in the five years following publication.

Articles were identified as entrepreneurship-focused based on a comprehensive review of abstracts by two entrepreneurship scholars. All articles published in Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and Strategic Entrepreneurship Journal were included. Books, book reviews, and commentaries (e.g., special issue introductions, editorials) were excluded.
- Year-by-year citation analysis 2009-2013 for the articles using the Social Sciences Citation Index. Self-citations were excluded.
- Ranking of articles based on total number of citations (excluding self-citations) over the period 2009-2013.
