考研英语长难句中，有一类句型很有特点，叫做虚假长难句。说这类句型是虚假长难句是因为这种句子插入成分较多，初看起来不知如何下手分析，但只要将其中的一些虚伪修饰去掉，句子的结构也就立刻清晰了。这里我们就通过一个有代表性的例子来看一下。

Although warnings are often appropriate and necessary-the dangers of drug interaction, for example-and many are required by state and government, it isn’t clear that they actually

protect the manufacturers and sellers from liability if a customer is injured.  

乍一看会觉得这个句子很长，也很复杂，而且有两个破折号。但是，根据我们对长难句的理解，两个破折号，或是两个逗号之间的内容往往是插入语的成分，这种成分的特点就是拎出来之后不影响句子的结构，并且在考研阅读文章中，这样的成分又往往不是文中的重点信息，所以应该直接跳过对其采取不予理睬的策略。好，句子现在变成了：

Although warnings are often appropriate and necessary and many are required by state and government, it isn’t clear that they actually protect the manufacturers and sellers from liability if a customer is injured.  

这样一看句子就变成了Although…，it isn’t clear that…，这样一个主语从句型结构。   

这个句子在阅读的过程中，可以再次简化，因为Although 引导的让步状语从句在阅读中并不是重点信息，所以我们的目光就可以聚焦到it isn’t clear that they actually protect the

manufacturers and sellers from liability if a customer is injured.  

此句型结构是一个形式主语从句的结构，形容词clear对应的主语其实是that引导的内容，在这个从句中我们又发现了一个引导词if，这个if 引导的从句包含在that 从句当中。   

接下来，我们再仔细看that从句中的内容是“they actually protect the manufacturers and sellers from liability if a customer is injured”在这个从句当中if 所引导的从句是一个条件状语从句。   

通过这样分析，句子在层层简化之后就变得非常清晰了。这类句子往往长而不难，原因在于，要么包含了although引导的一个长长的从句，要么就是诸如头衔、身份、或职位的专有名词较多，而这些信息在阅读解题时并不是重要的信息，所以我们一旦遇到这种情况就可以迅速绕过，直击核心信息。

A technological advancement is gauged by the power it gives or the energy it consumes and the cost that is involved.

解析：本句的难点在于后置定语，it gives，it consumes，that is involved，把这些后置定语直接作为形容词短语放在前面就行，同时注意短语is gauged by：以...为标准。那么我们来切分意群：A technological advancement /is gauged by /

the power it gives /or the energy it consumes /and the cost that is involved.逐个意群翻译，最后组合为通顺的汉语。

整句翻译为：技术改进的标准在于它所给予(或付出)的能量，它所消耗的能源以及它涉及的价值。(或投入的成本)

He adds humbly that perhaps he was “superior to the common run of men in noticing things which easily escape attention, and in observing them carefully.

解析：本句主要考察宾语从句，定语从句，比较及并列结构。首先我们先切分意群，He adds humbly /that perhaps /

he was “superior to the common run of men/ in noticing things/ which easily escape attention, and /in observing them carefully.

注意以下词汇：humbly，卑谦地，谦逊地。superior to高于，然后逐个意群翻译，组合成较为通顺的汉语：他谦虚的补充到：或许自己在注意到容易被人忽略的事情，并对其进行仔细观察方面优于他人。
