INET’s Annual PlenaryConference in Hong Kong (the “Conference”) will start from from 4 April to 6April 2013 at the Intercontinental Hong Kong.This is the first timeINET’s Annual Plenary conference is held in Asia. The provisional theme of theConference is Changing of the Guard?INET’s flagship AnnualPlenary Conference is already into its fourth year and each year a select groupof over 300 distinguished international economists,global thought leaders, leading academics, international policymakers,journalists and influential members of civil society converge to debate and reconsider conventional economic thinking and itsimplications for vital economic and social challenges of the 21st century. The main conference is by-invitation only.
Invited speakers includeNobel Laureates, leading economists, policymakers and industry leaders such asProf Joseph Stiglitz, Prof Amartya Sen, Prof George Akerlof, Zhu Min, SimonJohnson, Azim Premji, Victor Fung, George Soros, Alan Greenspan, Lord DavidSainsbury and Lord Adair Turner.
By way of background,INET is a leading New York based non-profit think-tank established in 2009(with an initial pledge by George Soros) to broadenand accelerate the development of new economic thinking that can lead tosolutions for the great challenges of the 21st century. In addition to the mainConference, INET will also be convening its youth outreach programme Young Scholars Initiative (YSI) in Hong Kong at the same time. As part ofthe YSI programme in Hong Kong, INET will hold a graduate student workshop before the main Conference from 2-3 April2013.The workshop consists of lectures in the morning and studentpresentations in the afternoon. The primary aim of the workshop is to givegraduate students the opportunity to present and discuss their research work ina collaborative environment.
The workshop is open toPhD students with a background in economics or related fields (qualifiedMasters students may apply too) from around the world. Successful applicantswill also be able to have full access to most Main Conference programmeactivities, and the opportunity to confer with the over 350 scholars, policy makers,and journalists also in attendance.

Applicationsmust be submitted before 24 February, 2013, 11.59pm (EST).The outcome ofapplications will be announced by 28 February. Forsuccessful applicants, INET will arrange your travel and hotel room and providemeals. Applicants must be prepared to be in Hong Kong on Monday, 1 April, andto depart on Sunday, 7 April.
