Research Description

The Intelligent Systems Laboratory in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of Central Florida (UCF) has an opening for a PhD student to start in the Spring or Fall 2019. The research focus of this lab is to develop new computational methods and tools for intelligent/smart manufacturing systems using sensing and data analytics technologies. Example research thrust areas include (1) data-driven smart manufacturing; (2) real-time manufacturing process monitoring, diagnostics, and prognostics; (3) reliability engineering and quality control; (4) cyber physical systems. Students with background in mechanical engineering, material engineering, industrial engineering, electrical and computer engineering, physics or engineering mechanicsare highly encouraged to apply. Desired skills include manufacturing processes and systems, signal/image processing, machine learning, statistics, applied mathematics, engineering optimization or engineering mechanics. The PhD student will be fully-funded through the Graduate Fellowship or Graduate Research Assistant (GRA). An ideal candidate is expected to have an earned BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Computer Science, or Electrical Engineering or a closely related field such as engineering physics. Previous experience in sensors, data analytics, computer programming, and process monitoring are preferred but not required.
