文化与经济增长：一个初步框架

摘要：对于地区间长期经济增长绩效的差异，传统经济理论主要从要素、技术和制度三个层次去解释，本文则尝试从更深层次的文化因素中去寻找国富国穷和地区兴衰的根源。本文首先界定了文化的经济学涵义，以与一般意义上的泛文化概念相区别。接着，分别探讨了文化对要素投入、技术进步和制度变迁的影响，以揭示它对于经济增长绩效的间接作用。然后，借用经济增长理论中的条件趋同模型，展示了一个在理论上能够连接文化禀赋与经济增长的分析框架。最后，通过对儒家文化地区与新教文化地区、硅谷与128号公路地区经济绩效的比较，为文化对经济增长的影响提供了一些典型案例。

Ji RenjunTraditional economictheories have interpreted inter-regional disparity in long-term economic growthperformance from such three levels as productive factors, technology andinstitution, but, the more deeper factor of culture has been neglected. Thisarticle firstly defines the meaning of culture in economics, so as to make itdifferent from its general conception. For revealing the indirect effect ofculture on the economic growth performance, the author investigates itsinfluence on factor input, technology progress and institution change. Thepaper then advances a new analytic framework, which can link cultural endowmentwith economic growth, by quoting the conditional convergence model in thetheory of economic growth. In the last, the article gives some typical casesfor supporting the theoretical analyses above, with a comparison of economicperformance between the Confucian region and the Protestant region, or between Silicon Valley and Route 128.
