Brief description
The research explores the relations existing between production activities, and where they are located, and environmental impact. In addition, resorting to information from patent data, the research investigates how and to what extent the so-called green patents provide an effective way to significantly reduce emissions while at the same time representing a novel source of competitive advantage for firms. Finally, the research addresses the effects of green innovation, as identified by green patents, on employment dynamics distinguishing between firms introducing the innovation and adopting firms.
A first objective is to identify and measure the extent to which off-shoring of production activities, which implies off-shoring of emissions as well, prevent the proper evaluation of environmental impact in the diverse global supply chain. From a scientific point of view the research contributes to the debate on the green transition to more sustainable business models.
