“One Belt One Road” andwomen development
Abstract: Women have become “the sourceof prosperity and vitality” through their active participation in nationaleconomic development. This paper provides the first study to explore the impactof the “One Belt One Road” initiative (Belt and Road Initiative [BRI]) onwomen's development, which is mainly indicated by gender inequality index(GII). We adopt the difference-in-difference method for Asia–Europe regionsfrom 2010 to 2019, and the propensity score matching method is furthersuppemented for refining the control group. The result suggests a robustnegative effect of the BRI on gender inequality, and the decrease in GII causedby the BRI accounts for 33.01%. In addition, a deeper analysis is performed onsubindices from multiple dimensions. We find that there has been a significantdecrease in maternal mortality due to the policy. Besides, the femalepopulation has a larger increase in secondary education compared with men. Moreover, a clear labour shift has been found from family and agriculturallabour to high-value-added industries and services. The BRI also helps improvethe unfavourable condition in backward countries, which is conducive tonarrowing the gap in women's development among countries along the route.

Gender diversity and patent quality:Evidence from Chinesepatent data
Abstract: Based on the patent data from China NationalIntellectual Property Administration, we attempt to examine the effect ofgender diversity in inventor teams on patent quality. We argue that genderdiversity in inventor teams can promote patent quality, especially theinvention patents that are high quality and radically innovative. Moreover, wefind that the positive effect will be enhanced in places where women are welleducated and improved by reducing gender discrimination. We propose that theeffect will be more significant when market competition or market uncertaintyis high as well as when the enterprises are private and growing. Ultimately, our study advocates that governments and enterprises should pay more attentionto female labor forces, especially in the area of science and innovation, whichis beneficial to improve innovation in China and eliminate gender inequality inthe labor market.

Monetary economy and budget deficit inendogenous growth model
Abstract:By an endogenousgrowth model with two-period overlapping generations structure and moneyholding of consumers, we examine the existence of budget deficit in an economywhich endogenously grows by investments of firms. The main results are asfollows. (1) Budget deficit is necessary for full employment under constantprices. (2) Inflation is induced if the actual budget deficit is greater thanthe value at which full employment is achieved under constant prices. (3) Ifthe actual budget deficit is smaller than the value which is necessary andsufficient for full employment under constant prices, a recession occurs. Therefore, balanced budget cannot achieve full employment under constantprices. We do not assume that budget deficit must later be made up by budgetsurplus. This paper is an example of an analysis using a very simple model ofthe following statement by John Maynard Keynes.
“Unemploymentdevelops, that is to say, because people want the moon;—men cannot be employedwhen the object of desire (i.e. money) is something which cannot be producedand the demand for which cannot be readily choked off. There is no remedy butto persuade the public that green cheese is practically the same thing and tohave a green cheese factory (i.e. a central bank) under public control.”
Inthe appendix of this paper, we show that if money as well as goods are producedby capital and labor, budget deficit is not necessary for full employment underconstant prices.
