At the beginning of this year, once I saw a book named "how to get farm products from peasants directly to the supermarket?" in Carrefour. It is said that the president of Carrefour saw the severe competition in supermarkets, and found that there were lots of opportunities in China's villages- Farmers there didn't have sales channels and at the same time, supermarkets often got stale foods. Then the president decided that Carefour should take the opportunity to buy farm products directly from the peasants and sell them to customers in the first time. In the inflation period, Carefour often waved the banner of selling low-priced vegetables to attract people.
Not just Walmart, Carefour has also been experiencing inspections, charges, punishment, media criticism and mass resistance. But I think Carefour caters to Chinese consumers' tastes better than Walmart and offers cheap and good commodities.
