Wow!!  It seems that you are on the right track.  Jia You Jia You!!!   My father in law asked me similar guestions before.  Eventually, my wife was patient enough to stay with me and we tried to be as independant as much as possbile.  Hopefully, my Ph.D. can give a better life for us. :-)
