20120606 Follow Me 391 China Challenges U.S. Supremacy in Shale Gas

Would Shale gas eventually change the energy supply and demand frame of the world?  In fact, the answer of the question is not important, the important thing is action: the biggest enemy of technology innovation is  the risk, the biggest charm of technological innovation is that how to  control  the risk effectively and  realize the revolutionary cross over for the development  of  human beings !
     In addition,the difference of the background conditions between China and the US in Shale gas fields  is great, if we ignore these differences, then the practices and experiences of US are directly applyed in China's shale gas market, the results  won't be ideal.

Is there any relationship between the two article.
To the first essay, actually I kown nothing about the shale gas and its extraction technology, but in common sense, I don't quit agree the title considering our country's techonology. If we do master the shale extaction technology, as the article tells that 'Such sentiments are unlikely to stand in the way in China, where over 1.2 million people were moved to make way for the Three Gorges Dam'.

For the second essay, china gov prohibits the foreign embassy to report their testing conclusions on the city's air condition. Why?

We need to think about why China is the best place to develop shale. Maybe China has a lot mineral resources, advanced techniques, and easy extraction policies to develop shale. The U.S. is also an economic giant in the world and has exploited shale gas as well according to the author's report (Swann 2011). However, shale gas is not a renewable energy, which cannot regenerated once it's used up. Of course a country could exploit shale gas to solve the problem of lack of fuel and high gas prices, but using too much non-renewable and polluted energy should be bad to economic development and environment because of heavy carbon emissions in the future. China should not rely on exploiting shale gas to obtain energy and reduce gas prices. Although China might gain short run economic benefits from the exploitation of shale gas, its future generations' health, life, and economic benefits would be hurt in the long run due to possible energy shortage and worse environmental pollution.

I don't think exploting too much shale gas is a smart way to solve energy shortage problem and promote economic growth. You can read the reasons in my comment.
