This book should sell well. Until now there's been nothing good out there on this topic. I'm a finance professor at Boston University and have worked closely with professor Scott Stewart. He has a unique perspective on education--he knows the practice, is well versed in the theory, and knows how to teach advanced investments in an apprenticeship style. He brings all of this to the textbook RUNNING MONEY: Professional Portfolio Management.
The book is good for a course, but also as a reference for the investor. The text is comprehensive and the topics are interesting, and well developed. Spreadsheets are used as a way to teach complex techniques using a hands-on approach.
As a sample, take a look at an mp4 recording of an interview of Dr. Stewart by the CFA Institute: [..]
Or take a look at the publisher McGraw Hill's online brochure: [..]
I recommend the book. This is not pabulum. It is really good stuff.

As a professional portfolio manager I recommend Running Money to portfolio managers, analysts, and others wishing to further their practical understanding of portfolio management. This book was helpful to me during my graduate studies and serves as a great referance tool for me in my professional life. A variety of different investment stategies are covered in this book. I found the broad asset allocation strategies to be most helpful and also learned quite a bit about strategies involving individual securities. Most of all, I found the spreadsheet examples to be excellant learning tools. The spreadsheets were interactive and walked me step by step through a variety of different topics including asset alloation, portfolio construction, and performance attribution. This book is a must have!
