The sample of firm-years includes all firms listed on the Center for Research in
Security Prices(CRSP) data base at the beginning of each year and having a share
code of 10 or 11. This gives a sample of 158,194 firm-years for which the market
value of equity can be calculated as the number of shares outstanding multiplied by
the stock price.

是不是指公司的财年呢，因为每个公司的财年的设定可能都不一样。所以叫firm year? 请赐教。

pooled data 是一种不同于panel data的数据，比如说公司A和公司B从1998到2008年的数据，如果每个公司从1998年到2008年的数据都完整，那么整个就是面板数据了，但是假如公司A只有从2000年到2008年的数据，那么就不能以面板数据来处理，firm-years的意思就是公司A只有2000年到2008年9个样本数据，而公司B一共有11个样本数据，那么整个的firm-years就是20个，pooled data 就是每个样本每一年的数据都是一个整体，公司和年度不重要，一共有多少样本数据就算多少。
