个人软实力（Soft Power ）是20世纪90 年代初，哈佛大学教授约瑟夫·奈首创的概念，从此启动了软实力研究与应用的潮流。“软实力”概念一经提出，便在世界范围内得到积极响应，世界各国纷纷研究并认真谋划提升自己的“软实力”。一个人的综合实力可以分为硬实力和软实力两种，硬实力是可以证明的能力，如学历、技能证书、本领等，其是道行高低的体现；而软实力是指暂时难以估量的能力，比如思维能力、沟通能力、表达能力、文化修养、学习能力、团队协作能力等，其是修为高低的体现。

A person's comprehensive strength can be divided into hard power and soft power. For example, thinking ability, communication ability, expression ability, cultural accomplishment, learning ability, teamwork ability, etc., are the embodiment of cultivation.
