勒奈·笛卡尔

Rence Descartes,1596～1650)法国哲学家、物理学家和数学家。1596年3月31日生于法国小镇拉埃的一个贵族家庭。因家境富裕从小多病，学校允许他在床上早读，养成终生沉思的习惯和孤僻的性格。1606年他在欧洲最有名的贵族学校──耶稣会的拉弗莱什学校上学，1616年在普依托大学学习法律与医学，对各种知识特别是数学深感兴趣。在军队服役和周游欧洲中他继续注意“收集各种知识”，“随处对遇见的种种事物注意思考”，1629～1649年在荷兰写成《方法谈》（1637）及其附录《几何学》、《屈光学》、《哲学原理》（1644）。1650年2月11日卒于斯德哥尔摩，死后还出版有《论光》（1664）等。

詹姆斯·奥古斯汀·艾洛依休斯·乔伊斯（James Augustine Aloysius Joyce），（1882年2月2曰——1941年1月13曰），爱尔兰作家和诗人，20世纪最重要的作家之一。代表作包括短篇小说集《都柏林人》（1914）、长篇小说《一个青年艺术家的画像》（1916）、《尤利西斯》（1922）以及《芬尼根的苏醒》（1939）。

　　尽管乔伊斯一生大部分时光都远离故土爱尔兰，但早年在祖国的生活经历却对他的创作产生了深远的影响。他的大部分作品都以爱尔兰为背景和主题。他所创作的小说大多根植于他早年在都柏林的生活，包括他的家庭、朋友、敌人、中学和大学的岁月。乔伊斯是用英文写作的现代主义作家中将国际化因素和乡土化情节结合最好的人。

　本杰明·富兰克林（Benjamin Franklin）(1706.1.17—1790.4.17)是18世纪美国的实业家、科学家、社会活动家、思想家、文学家和外交家。他是美国历史上第一位享有国际声誉的科学家和发明家。为了对电进行探索曾经作过著名的“风筝实验”，在电学上成就显著，为了深入探讨电运动的规律，创造的许多专用名词如正电、负电、导电体、电池、充电、放电等成为世界通用的词汇。他借用了数学上正负的概念，第一个科学地用正电,负电概念表示电荷性质。并提出了电荷不能创生、也不能消灭的思想，后人在此基础上发现了电荷守恒定律。他最先提出了避雷针的设想，由此而制造的避雷针，避免了雷击灾难，破除了迷信。这个震惊世界的实验还被苏教国标版语文第九册（五年级上册）介绍，为第19课《天火之谜》。他是一位优秀的政治家，是美国独立战争的老战士。他参加起草了《独立宣言》和美国宪法，积极主张废除奴隶制度，深受美国人民的崇敬。他是美国第一位法国驻外大使,所以在世界上也享有较高的声誉。

弗里德里希·威廉·尼采（Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche，1844年10月15日～1900年8月25日），德国著名哲学家。西方现代哲学的开创者，同时也是卓越的诗人和散文家。他最早开始批判西方现代社会，然而他的学说在他的时代却没有引起人们重视，直到20 世纪，才激起深远的调门各异的回声。后来的生命哲学，存在主义，弗洛伊德主义，后现代主义，都以各自的形式回应尼采的哲学思想。
