Business Law AThis module will cover lecture topics as follows:
- UK legal framework

- Law of contract - essential elements, performance and remedies
- Tort Law and Employment Law as they apply to business
Computers in BusinessThis module will introduce the use of computers and IT in business today - and in particular spreadsheet modelling - via a lab based assessment and a case study group report and presentation
Entrepreneurship and BusinessThe course presents a formal analysis of entrepreneurship in theory and practice leading on to a consideration of creativity and business concept generation. The course concludes with the practical application of these theories and concepts in business planning and business concept presentation.
Financial AccountingThis module will introduce the nature and purpose of Financial Accounting. Key accounting concepts, the impact of accounting policy selection, accounting standards and the recording of accounting information will be presented. Accounting reports e.g. Profit and Loss Accounts, Balance Sheets and Cash Flow statements will be developed from accounting data. Ratio analysis, interpretation of accounting information and understanding some contemporary accounting issues will also be developed.
Microeconomics for Business AThis module introduces students to the microeconomic theory of the market and the firm. Topics covered include: Market Demand; Supply and Equilibrium; Firm Production and Costs; Market Structure; Perfect Competition; Monopolistic Competition; Oligopoly and Monopoly.
Studying OrganisationsThis module charts the development of the social sciences and their relationship to the natural sciences. The module begins with a brief history of social science followed by examples of social science research. The module will focus on methodological issues including quantitative and qualitative research. Examples of research into individual and group social processes will be discussed emphasising research into people in organizations. The module will consider finally the move away from positivism towards qualitative interpretive research processes by looking at the work of ethnographers in organizations. This will lead to discussion of how research can be applied to the understanding of work and organization design and to the analysis of contemporary management practices.

Business FinanceThe module introduces the fundamental concepts of finance, including project appraisal, capital markets and the capital structure of firms.
Introduction to the fundamental concepts of finance and in particular:
- Understand that there is a relationship between the risk of an investment and the expected returns.
- Understand the concept of the time value of money and be able to calculate the present value of a single and multiple future cash flow.
- Be able to apply NPV to project appraisal in realistic situations.
- Understand the fundamental ideas or portfolio theory and be able to apply the CAPM.
- To be able to estimate cost of capital for equity (CAPM and dividend growth model) and bonds (market value and IRR).
Business Law BThis module will cover lecture topics as follows:
- Agency
- Criminal Liability in Business
- Overview of the Law of Property
- Legal personality; sole traders; partnerships and Limited Companies
- Purpose and legal status of memorandum and articles
- Management and the Administration of a company
- Insolvency
Contemporary Economic PolicyThis module introduces participants to the nature and scope of the macroeconomic policy agenda, and develops the analytical frameworks necessary for the evaluation of policy instruments. The module enables participants to understand the economic arguments that under-lie different views and to evaluate relevant arguments.
Management, Accounting & Decisions IThis module will introduce the nature and purpose of Management Accounting. Key concepts of what information is required by managers in contrast with the information required by shareholders and other external stakeholders that was the underpinning of what financial accounting dealt with. Standard Costing, the costing process, cost management and some contemporary management accounting issues will also be developed and discussed.
People and OrganisationsThis module will introduce students to the basic ideas of organisational behaviour and allow them to develop an understanding of how individuals behave as members of groups and organisations.

Accounting Information SystemsThis module focuses on the use of accounting information systems in financial and management accounting and their control and audit.
- Introduction to systems

- Budgeting and decision support systems
- Internal control and audit
- Computer crime and external audit
- Enterprise resource planning systems
Computational FinanceThe module will introduce students to key computational tools (Excel, Visual Basic for Applications, or whatever macro language Excel supports in future) and their applications to the mathematics of financial problems. The course will integrate application areas in finance which have already been introduced to the student, or which are being introduced to students concurrently, appropriate mathematical and statistical techniques, and computational approaches. Basic spreadsheet skills will be introduced in the context of financial forecasting (e.g. % of sales method). Emphasis will be placed on the usefulness of inbuilt spreadsheet SOLVERS (e.g. the basic mathematics of portfolio optimisation), and inbuilt random number generators (e.g. Monte Carlo approach to stimulating asset prices). Simple programming structures will be introduced so that numerical solutions to more complex problems can be demonstrated.
Database Design and ImplementationThis module examines the process of relational database design and implementation using relevant theory in a series of lectures and teaching hands-on database skills in PC lab sessions. Applications of modern databases will be studied and all students will be required to create a database system, fully documented, to solve a given problem.
Financial ReportingParticular attention will be paid to the application of financial reporting principles by listed companies, the impact of International Financial Reporting Standards and the financial audit of companies and groups.
Introductory EconometricsThis module will provide an introduction to the theory and practice of quantitative economic modelling at a basic level. The theoretical framework will be developed around the classical regression model and its extensions, with theoretical understanding being supplemented with computer-based practical examples of model construction and data analysis.
