在国外，豆子是非常便宜的。这也就是说，种在小山顶上的一大片豆子，最多只值一、两分钱。

所以我们常常会用这个俚语来形容“不值钱”：

It's not worth a hill of beans.

这东西一文不值。

讲解

beans 是“豆子”的意思，hill 是“小山” a hill of beans 直译就是“满山的豆子”，在国外，豆子是非常便宜的。就算是一大片豆子 a hill of beans 也值不了多少钱。所以 a hill of beans 就指的“毫无价值，一文不值”。

发音

我们在读这句话的时候，要注意 hill 和 of 这两个单词间的连读，hill 的尾音 /l/ 和 of 连读成 lof, 合在一起也就是 a hill of.
