Theme: New financial products and financial infrastructure in 2006, 2007 that exacerbated the GFC. What are the difficulties in monitoring such activity from both a regulator and the senior management viewpoint?; How a proper implementation of Basel II could have averted the crisis, and why Basel III won’t help. This points out areas where regulators were not following Basel II as well as they should have been.
Speaker: Frank Ashe has been an Associate Professor at the Macquarie University Applied Finance Centre since January 2002, with research interests in governance and risk, financial risk management, robustness of investment portfolio construction techniques, market risk management, and the statistical underpinnings of Applied Finance. He previously held a Visiting Fellowship with the Centre. Since 2007 he splits his time between the university and his consulting practice.
Prior to the position at the Applied Finance Centre, Dr Ashe worked in Australia and Canada with insurance companies, investment management firms, software development, and consultancy. His 20 years of practical experience has been predominantly in the measurement and management of financial risk, with an emphasis on asset-liability management, and developing risk measurement and management tools for novel situations.
He is currently the President of the Australian Q-Group. Dr Ashe obtained his PhD in Operations Reasearch from the University of New South Walesand he graduated from Macquarie University majoring in Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science.
