R for Political Data Science: A Practical Guide is intended to be a reference textbook for political scientists working with data from Latin America. It could be equally useful for a university student pursuing her PhD studies, a political consultant living in Mexico City, or a public official in Brasilia, all of whom need to transform their datasets into substantive and easily interpretable conclusions. If you don’t specialize in Latin America, but still do political data analysis, the book will be useful as well.
The book was born from the need to have reference material to teach R. Working together in the Quantitative Data Analysis II chair at the Political Science Institute of the Catholic University of Chile, we found there was no introductory textbook written for learners. R for Political Data Science: A Practical Guide has as its imaginary audience the Latin American political scientist, whether she is an undergraduate or graduate student, or already in the market. Therefore, all exercises are based on Latin American datasets. However, political scientists based in other regions will find the book usefull as well.
