20120419 Follow Me 343 Obama Calls for Increased Oversight of Oil Markets

Obama has made many efforts in getting oil prices coming down. In 2011, Obama called for end of subsidies in 2011 budget, which was a big step to energy security.  In April 2012, Obama announced a $52 billion plan to limit oil market speculation.

But from the current oil prices we cannot see any effect because the prices are still very high. Maybe the issue is just too hard to solve.  

The problem of oil always remains hugely controversial.  American even once started some wars over the oil market, the Per-sian Gulf , for example. Whatever, I hope China can learn a lesson from the USA and handle this issue well.

确实，美国自从70年代的石油危机后很注重能源政策，这可以从总统选举中看出，能源政策是两党竞选人的交锋地。美国在节能方面取得了很不错的成绩(包括严格的汽车节能标准），而且美国的能源储备很雄厚，美国特别注重石油储备。高油价和整个世界需求与供给状况有关。持续的高油价，被经济学家认为是有可能影响全球经济恢复的重要因素。

监管在某种程度上是十分必要的，也是不可缺少的，这样有利于资源有效配置，减少投机行为，不过油价也得由供求来决定，供给不足时，价格上涨是很正常的，而油价上涨，会导致一系列的循环效应，最后是福利降低了。应该鼓励技术创新，

          Personally, Obama and oil company are in the same boat. Oil company and Wall street speculators are rich enough to influence the country's policy and the leader of U.S. Obama just make a show to pander the common people considering they also have some votes on their hand in next election. But oil comany and Wall street are more powerful, they can offer money for Obama's reappointment. Therefore, Obama will not take practical action toward oil price manipulators.
         I read an aritcle which is my first time to appreciate Follow us. It is about the oil company's trick to tackle the new energy industry. They subsidize some scholars to write aritcle and propagandize new energy' cost is too high to prevail in the world. Hence, new energy industry faces huge obstruction not only comes from techinical field but also comes from the assault and conspiracy of rich oil company.

It is more inclined to government control in many areas, but sometimes it is really reasonable.

Oil, enterpreneurship, power, politics and wealth are all connected in this raw material extraction and refining industry. And the oil price almost affects all aspects of our life, although ordinary citizens don't pay much attention to raw oil prices except for the petroleum prices used by cars.
Hope alternative energies will be found quickly.
