Yes you are right. Most of economics faculties had their own offices, but research faculties had priority to own larger offices than teaching faculties. Graduate teaching assistants and research assistants had shared offices. However some advanced graduate research assistants had their individual offices. That was what I saw when I asked my teachers questions during my undergraduate study.
