歌词详解 斯卡堡集市的第二句唱到了四种花朵，芫荽、鼠尾草、迷迭香和百里香（Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme），据说分别代表爱情的甜蜜，力量，忠诚和勇气。也有说法这四种花都有代表“死亡”的隐藏意，暗示远在天涯的爱人早已逝去。而目前《Scarborough Fair》最著名的版本，也就是
西蒙与加芬克尔（Simon and Garfunkel）为电影《毕业生》所创作的主题曲（当年曾超过了披头士乐队的白色专辑，登上了1968年畅销歌曲排行榜的榜首），主要使用了“原版”中“Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme”这一小部分。
在歌曲的二、三、四段，每一句的结尾，都有一个不太明显的声音在唱着另外的一套歌词，副歌的歌词是西蒙写的，而旋律则出自加芬克尔之手，副歌开始时如同秋天昏黄
萧索的天空，沉静的讲述战争当中的种种苦难，艰辛，这使得这一曲《Scarborough Fair》不再仅仅是一首哀伤的恋歌，更是一首尖锐的反战歌曲。那套歌词的内容讲述了一场战争。结合当时的背景，可能与反对
越南战争有关。
