S/he can tell whether or not you have invested enough time to dig deep enough.
Almost immediately.
So kidding yourself is not a wise policy.

The last one, focus on your project with all your heart and soul.
In the long run, this could reduce your painful journey as quick as possible.

the other is the time you know why.
