Swedish economist Eric Lindahl’s solution to the problem of providing public goods is to charge consumers a personal tax “price” equal to each individual’s marginal willingness to pay.<br/>(a) Show that in principle this would (i) ensure that the tax revenue precisely pays for the cost of providing the public goods; and (ii) result in an equilibrium which is efficient.<br/>(b) Why in practice is Lindahl’s approach likely to fail?
