Coal Information provides a comprehensive review of historical and current market trends in the world coal sector.

Thisreference document brings together essential statisticson coal. Ittherefore provides a strong foundation for policy and marketanalysis,which in turn can better inform the policy decision processtowardselecting policy instruments best suited to meet domesticandinternational objectives.

Part I of the publication provides areview of the world coal market in2008, while Part II provides astatistical overview of developments,which covers world coalproduction and coal reserves, coal demand bytype (hard, steam,coking), hard coal trade and hard coal prices.

Part IIIprovides, in tabular and graphic form, a more detailedandcomprehensive statistical picture of historical and currentcoaldevelopments in the 30 OECD member countries, by regionandindividually.

Part IV provides for selected non-OECD countriessummary statistics onhard coal supply and end-use statistics for about40 countries andregions worldwide. Complete coal balances and coaltrade data forselected years are presented on 16 major non-OECD coalproducing andconsuming countries.

Coal Information is one of a series of annual IEA statistical publications on major energy sources; other reports are Electricity Information, Natural Gas Information, Oil Information and Renewables Information.
