On the afternoonof 23nd October the Department of Finance at the University ofMelbourne will hold an information session in Hong Kong describing the Department’sdoctoral program in Finance. Our world-class program begins with two years ofadvanced course work in finance, economics, econometrics, mathematics andstatistics. Dissertation supervision is provided by the Department’s faculty.The faculty regularly publish in the leading Finance and Economics journals. Generousscholarships, fee waivers, conference attendance reimbursement, and a researchallowance are available throughout the degree.
The Department of Finance at theUniversity of Melbourne wants to attract the very best doctoral candidates tostudy with us. The Department has an experienced group of senior faculty including,Professors Peter Bossaerts, Bruce Grundy, J. Spencer Martin, Federico Nardari andGarry Twite and a wonderful group of young graduates from BI Norwegian BusinessSchool, Tel Aviv, Bocconi, Warwick, the University of British Columbia, GeorgiaState, UC Santa Barbara, the Swiss Finance Institute, the University of Texasat Austin, Kellogg, the Cambridge Judge Business School, the University ofSouthern California, Tilburg, Columbia, Wharton, and Cornell.
The information session on the afternoon of 23rdOctober will begin with a lunch for participants. The information session will bepresented by five faculty members of the Department of Finance and will describe
· the structure of the Finance PhD,
· the research and publications of theDepartment’s 42 faculty members,
· the Department’s weekly seminar series and annualFinance Down Under Conference,
· the Department’s large set of data bases,
· the application procedure, and
· the funding, support, and placement of ourdoctoral students.
Up to 10applicants from around the world will be selected to attend the session.Successful applicants who are neither residing or studying in Hong Kong will beprovided with accommodation at the venue hotel on the evenings of October 22ndand 23rd including internet access and breakfast on the followingmornings plus reimbursement (with receipts) of the cost of direct returneconomy airfares to and from Hong Kong.
Those wishing to attend should send an email to SuzieCollins suzie.collins@unimelb.edu.auwith Hong Kong Melbourne Finance Doctoral Day in the subject line. The brief applicationemail should have a pdf attachment that contains:
(1) the applicant’sCV which must include the applicant’s contact details,
(2) a maximumone-page description of a research project undertaken by the applicant as partof their current or past studies, and
(3) a maximumone-page statement of interest in future doctoral studies in Finance.
Closing date forapplications: Friday September 21, 2018. Applicants will be notified of theoutcome of their application by Monday October 1 and must confirm theirattendance by Friday October 5.
