1 Eat fresh vegetables, fruit, nuts, meat and fish. Stay clear of grain-based carbs and sugar. Avoid potatoes too. Watch the alcohol.
2 Skip a dinner every week.
3 Exercise with intensity. Lift weights, run sprints (but don’t jog or run long distances), play a sport. Your workouts should be hard, but don’t spend too much time at it. Two or three times a week at the gym, a half-hour each time, is plenty.
4 Remember, the goal is to eat and exercise as humans did roughly 40,000 years ago, before the advent of agriculture or labour-saving technology. Just don’t overdo it. Be glad you’re here now.
5 Give up the command-and-control approach to diet and fitness. Relax, enjoy the process, and let it happen.
