擒贼先擒王，把大的一炮轰了，小的就听话收手了，整盘局就可以慢慢收拾了

it is difficult to decide when it is the right time to escape.

1. you can only escape if you have not been investigated (usually secretly) yet.  but when you are not investigated, you may never get investigated. so trying to escape when you have not yet been investigated has a lot of risk -- you would be leaving a comfortable life and powerful network behind, and expected you would have a lot boring life (relatively) and maybe plenty of hardships. your choice can be close to a suicide if you end up never getting investigated. most people would choose to take no action given such a high stake.

2. when you have been investigated, it is already too late.
