《理想国》是西方哲学经典中的经典。在书中，作者柏拉图从他的老师——苏格拉底的第一人称的角度，讨论了公正的含义，做一个伪装的好人、实际上的坏人是否是人的最大的利益；统治本身是有利于统治者，还是有利于被统治者；国家应有的状态是什么？灵魂的轮回等，提出了历史上颇负盛名的“洞穴比喻”以及“理型”的观念。本书中有关于社会形态的讨论成为了共产观念思想的源头。

本书译者曾译出《苏格拉底之死》（上海译文出版社），此次对《理想国》的翻译，他参考使用了多种英译本（其中最重要的是哈佛大学的洛布丛书、保罗·肖里译本、Basic Books的布卢姆译本和哈克特出版社的C.D.C.里夫的译本）对照翻译，并参考了数种中文译本（包括王太庆、郭斌和、王晓朝、张竹明等）最大限度地增加了注释，极大地提高了翻译的准确性。

作者简介

柏拉图（Plato，约公元前427年—347年）

西方思想传统奠基人之一，是同苏格拉底和亚里士多德齐名的西方三贤。他提出了“理念论”和“理想国”等学说，主要作品为柏拉图对话录，其中的主角多是苏格拉底。他创立的柏拉图学园，是后来所有西方大学的原型。
