The aims of the course are (i) to enable students to understand the formal basis for probability theory, and to acquire further skills in proof techniques, reasoning within an abstract system, and mathematical modelling, and (ii) to prepare students for further study in disciplines requiring the use and understanding of probability theory. Let me stress that this is a Mathematics course, the subject matter of which is Probability Theory. If you want to learn Finance or Economics, this is not the course for you. If however you want to understand and become more familiar with some of the Mathematics underlying what you are learning in Finance or Economics (or are likely to be learning at Masters level), then this course is designed to be helpful to you. If you are uncertain whether your mathematical background is adequate, then please come and talk to me about it.
