You're probably not the only one applying for that job. That might seem obvious, but too many cover letters are written in a robotic style that leave little impression on hiring managers who are sifting through vast piles of applications, according to career counselors. The cover letter is your chance — most likely your only one — to stand out from many other candidates who have similar résumés. Don't botch it. Despite the high stakes, a lot of job-seekers treat the cover letter like a formality, putting little thought and few personal flourishes into it. While every industry and hiring manager is different, here are some tricks to increase your chances of scoring an interview. Don't stick to a template You could easily Google "cover letter template" to get some ideas on how to write it. Don't. "You need to think about your audience," said Kristen Fitzpatrick, the managing director of career and professional development at Harvard Business School. "Who's reading it? How do you capture their attention enough so they move you from one pile to another?" This is your time to show your communication skills and your personality. You must make the case that the other 99 percent of applicants don't have what you have. Following a template, or otherwise putting little effort into making your letter stand out, suggests you're just another applicant. Don't rehash your résumé Focus on the organization you're writing to and the job description of the open position. If you nail your cover letter, the hiring manager will end up reading your résumé anyway, so don't waste precious space duplicating it by going down the list of where you've worked. "It's to complement your résumé, not repeat it," Mr. O'Neill said. "Cover letters where you're just rewriting the content of your résumé aren't effective." Instead, you could list some specific examples of projects you've worked on, and explain what you learned from them and how that knowledge would apply to the open position. Or you could offer some new ideas, showing from the start that you understand the company's goals and would bring creativity. Don't state the obvious Read your letter again, and zap any clichés or platitudes that don't say something meaningful about you, the position or the company. As an example: Don't say you're a "hard worker." Everyone says that, and it would be easy to lie about if you weren't, making it a meaningless sentiment to include. It merely takes up space that could be better spent on something that actually sets you apart from the other candidates. "It's not even worth saying," Ms. Fitzpatrick said. "You'll show you're a hard worker by going above and beyond in writing a letter." Do your research This requires going past the first page of Google results. You could go to a library to sift through professional databases that might have more information, or get coffee with someone who works at the company you're applying to. Show a familiarity with recent projects, acquisitions and public statements. It doesn't have to be a lot, but a few sentences to show you've put time into it could go a long way. If you're not preparing for something as crucial as a cover letter, why would they trust you would prepare for an important meeting? Focus on what you can offer them A lot of applicants spend too much time talking about why they love the company, Ms. Fitzpatrick said. "How many letters does Apple read that say, 'I couldn't live without my iPhone'? Probably a lot," she said. "So you want to show you are unique and you've done your research." Marcus Lemonis: 'I still have anxiety' and here's how I deal with it You do want to make it clear that you respect the company and explain why you're interested, but the focus should be on what you can do for them. Dozens of Soros-funded outfits helped lobby the media, bus in AstroTurf protesters and “community organizers,” coordinate propaganda messaging, create an “echo chamber,” and more, the Washington Times revealed. Based on the establishment media’s non-stop parroting of the Soros-funded propaganda, the relative success of the strategy was plain to see. Despite the recent uproar over Soros’ giant role in exploiting Ferguson and bankrolling nationwide anti-local police machinations, it is hardly the first time that Soros, a protégé of the Rothschild banking dynasty , has faced scrutiny over his pseudo-charitable activities. In fact, as The New American has documented extensively, everything from the anti-market Occupy Wall Street “movement” and the Obama campaign to deadly revolutions overseas have benefited from the powerful hedge-fund boss’ largesse in recent years. Soros has also faced criticism for publicly stating that the mass-murdering Communist Party regime ruling mainland China should “own” what he and his comrades refer to as the “New World Order.” In Ferguson and beyond, though, the influence of Soros’ billions was felt close to home by millions of Americans. “There’s a solitary man at the financial center of the Ferguson protest movement,” reported the Times , citing financial records and interviews with key players about the Soros role in fueling the manufactured chaos that engulfed Ferguson. “No, it’s not victim Michael Brown or Officer Darren Wilson. It’s not even the Rev. Al Sharpton, despite his ubiquitous campaign on TV and the streets. Rather, it’s liberal billionaire George Soros, who has built a business empire that dominates across the ocean in Europe while forging a political machine powered by nonprofit foundations that impacts American politics and policy, not unlike what he did with MoveOn.org.” According to the Times story, which garnered headlines worldwide, Soros organizations helped mobilize demonstrators and build up “coalitions” — oftentimes coalitions of his own AstroTurf outfits — to drum up hysteria. Other Soros organizations, meanwhile, reportedly monitored and exploited anything related to Ferguson that could be portrayed as a “conservative misstep.” Some groups also developed dubious “academic research” and generated editorials that the establishment press was only too happy to promote and parrot. The Soros-funded organizations “fed off each other,” the Times reported, creating what the paper described as an “echo chamber” within social media and the mischaracterized “mainstream” press. Even some of the “media” outlets hyping the Soros-funded “grassroots” schemes are funded by Soros. Among the radical Soros organizations that descended on Ferguson and participated in the scheming were the Samuel Dewitt Proctor Conference in Chicago, the Drug Policy Alliance, Make the Road New York, Equal Justice USA, Sojourners, the Advancement Project, the Center for Community Change, and networks from the Gamaliel Foundation. “All were aimed at keeping the media’s attention on the city and to widen the scope of the incident to focus on interrelated causes — not just the overpolicing and racial discrimination narratives that were highlighted by the news media in August,” the Times reported about the activities of the collection of Soros-funded groups, including more than a few race-hate mongers and pseudo-religious outfits with strong ties to the Obama administration. Unsurprisingly, Soros apparatchiks who oversee the billionaire’s supposed philanthropic efforts downplayed the revelations and the extent of Soros’ practical control over the groups he bankrolls and in some cases helped create. “Our DNA includes a belief that having people participate in government is indispensable to living in a more just, inclusive, democratic society,” Kenneth Zimmerman, director of Soros‘ Open Society Foundations’ U.S. programs, told the paper in an interview. “Helping groups combine policy, research data collection with community organizing feels very much the way our society becomes more accountable.” The Soros foundation boss noted that Soros money has been flowing to similar groups since the early 1990s and claimed that Soros’ operatives did not direct the protests — despite doling out more than $5 million to groups just in Ferguson and Staten Island last year to, as the foundation itself described it, “further police reform, accountability and public transparency.” Zimmerman also claimed implausibly that the “incidents” in those areas were “spontaneous protests” and that dumping billions of dollars into bogus “grassroots” groups does not lead to Soros operatives having the “ability to control or dictate what others say or choose to say.” More than a few critics have referred to Soros’ operatives as “racist hate groups.” In one column lambasting admitted National Socialist (Nazi) collaborator Soros as “evil,” for example, the billionaire financier’s activities were described as “paying racist leftists to block roads and harass you.” Columnist Daniel Greenfield also suggested that Ferguson victims of Soros-linked rioting, looting, and violence ought to send the bill to the prominent hedge-fund boss. Ben Bullard at Personal Liberty Digest, meanwhile, noted that, by the end of the Times report, “‘echo chamber’ begins to seem an inadequate description for a coterie of groups that occupy such a claustrophobic ideological, organizational and financial space.” Still, despite Soros’ giant footprint in Ferguson, the widely criticized billionaire was not entirely alone in fomenting the unrest — his establishment allies and other powerful forces helped too. Amid ongoing anti-police protests in New York and across much of the nation, for example, analysts dug up a 2010 news story that might have also played a role in building up the “movement.” Four years ago, New York schools introduced what was dubbed a “human rights curriculum” for middle- and high-school students. In addition to hyping controversial UN notions of “human rights,” the scheme focused heavily on the anti-police work and initiatives of self-described Communist revolutionary and Soros beneficiary Van Jones — the radical who served as Obama’s “green jobs” czar until his extremist background and intentions were exposed by the conservative press. The Obama administration, which benefited from millions of Soros dollars on the campaign trail, was also important — with top officials, including Obama, irresponsibly meddling in and commenting on a local issue with a view to fomenting racial strife. The Justice Department, meanwhile, was recently exposed for having provided grants to a leftist “community” organization that was involved in producing a rap music video glorifying and encouraging the murder of police officers . The outfit, dubbed “Bronx Defenders,” received at least $1.5 million in U.S. taxpayer dollars from Obama’s Department of Justice, and more than $100 million from New York taxpayers since 2007. Obama’s “Organizing for Action” outfit is currently involved in training 10,000 “progressive community organizers” to fan out across America and transform the nation. As The New American reported extensively, the dictator-dominated United Nations was also constantly seeking to stir up unrest and attacks on the unalienable rights of the American people by cynically exploiting the deaths of Trayvon Martin in Florida, Michael Brown in Ferguson, and Eric Garner in New York . From attacking gun rights and the U.S. justice system to demanding that local American police departments adhere to “international standards” and “international law,” the UN boss and hordes of his “human rights” bureaucrats were constantly interfering in U.S. affairs. Even after the police officers involved were cleared of criminal wrongdoing by their peers, the UN did not let up — at least until two New York City police officers were murdered amid the Soros-funded and UN-backed hysteria. Of course, no manufactured statist protests to “transform America” would be complete without communist involvement and “useful idiots” to do the dirty work. And Soros’ latest antics from Ferguson to New York aimed at promoting Big Government and radical “change” were no exception. While most of the establishment press never bothered to report it, conservative-leaning websites and sources were quick to point out that the signs held by many of the demonstrators across America were produced and supplied by the Revolutionary Communist Party, USA — as the signs themselves admitted, even including an Internet address for the totalitarian party’s website. The Communist Party USA was also busy hyping and participating in the alleged “movement.” If the “establishment” media did its job and reported the facts rather than concealing them to advance the cause of “progressivism,” none of this would be a surprise to most Americans. In fact, the “coalitions” and campaigns would probably never have happened to begin with. Instead, the wildly mischaracterized “mainstream” press was too busy frothing about the Koch brothers while justifying and glorifying rioting and looting to inform its dwindling readership about the facts. And while the Ferguson hysteria from last year appears to have died down for now — like the Soros-funded “Occupy Wall Street” machinations — the key players and financiers are without a doubt already plotting their next pseudo-"grassroots movement” to “fundamentally transform” the United States. Just like the obviously manufactured violence in Ferguson, Baltimore is even more carefully engineered and coordinated to captivate (and distract) the attention of the nation. Who, but agents of the government, would have the time and money, personnel and plots to conduct such an ongoing, covert black operation? With Jade Helm gearing up to take the southwestern states by storm this summer, it would appear that something is in store for each quadrant of the USA between now and the middle of September. Here is the way it was put by the SOTN editor in a previous post titled: Are government agent provocateurs inciting violence in Baltimore? The evolving conflagration in Baltimore is neither spontaneous nor unplanned. Every stage of the build-up of tensions and anger has been carefully orchestrated by forces behind the scenes … just like Ferguson. With each confrontation comes an opportunity for the police to assert themselves on behalf of the 1% . The only thing that stands between the 1% and the 99% are the various law enforcement agencies of this nation. On that very day began the conspicuous diminishment of faith and confidence in the U.S. Federal Government’s capacity to endlessly service its unsustainable and forever growing federal debt. Conclusion The 1% have grown inconceivably rich off the government; and, therefore, off the people (especially the taxpayer), as they always have. The pigs at the public trough, however, will soon have no place to go to feed at the expense of the tax-paying public. Nor will there be so much political pork to serve up to the beneficiaries of the current prevailing form of corrupt, corporate, crony capitalism — an unconscionably predatory kind of capitalism. As the bona fide economic picture comes into greater clarity, people everywhere will be expressing their discontent and anger at the system which burned and betrayed them. The 1% knows this and is sponsoring a whole set of law enforcement and military initiatives (e.g. Jade Helm) designed to scare the populace into compliance. Ferguson and Baltimore were both governmental black operations choreographed to falsely dramatize a race war rather than the much more accurate class war that has been brewing for many years. It is much more advantageous for the 1% to frame the conflict in this very limited context because it diverts the attention from their direct culpability in the deliberate destruction of America … especially the economy. Simply put, when blacks are fighting whites or the police, and Hispanics are rumbling with blacks, and Asians are tussling with Latinos and blacks, the 1% is content to sit back and watch the show … free from unwanted attention or scrutiny. Police in western India said they have arrested two people for trying to sell a 13-year-old girl’s virginity. One of those arrested in the sting operation was the girl’s mother, said police in Thane, a district near Mumbai. The Chinese economy challenges are the followings: 1st Chinese economy stage is as a developing country. Also we're facing theinflationarypressure. The driving forces areurbanizationand industrialization. So you can see many things are going on at the same time. Also we have reforms: banking reforms, exchange rate regime liberalization. 4th China isopeningup. China joint the WTO 2000. We face a lot of challenges like the legal perspective, etc. Also we not only need to consider domestic issues but alsoextraissues. More than 30 years ago, we were still a closed economy, we rarely consider the rest of the world. But now it's acompletelydifferent picture. And you see in this process, we accumulated a lot of foreign reserves. Also another challenge,becausethe liquidity is plenty, and also China is in a process of changing to market economy, which is ruled by law, and property right is protected. So in this process, because the transition, and protection ofpropertyright, the housing prices went up quite dramatically. The 1st thing: control inflation is our No1 job. As central banker, we have to control the inflation.Everybodyis veryenthusiasticabout the economic growth. As central banker, we need to remind general public and central government the limitation of resources, capacity,environmentetc. Keep in mind that the first thing in our central banker's mind is control inflation. 2nd consideration: China is a developing country. Inflation targeting is the only objective. In China, we have a multi-objective task for central bank. 1) inflation; 2) growth; 3) jobs creation; 4) try to maintain internal external balance. we have to consider all of the four. In our mind, those four are not equally weighted. Inflation is heavily weighted but we also need to take care of others. 3rd consideration: financial stability and reform. How to carry out a sound monetary policy? We have to have a stable market. If you don't have, you need to establish a stable market first. Many people said that China should liberalize the interest rate. But our banking was in a very bad shape 15 years ago. In late 1990s, technically speaking, most national banks have been already bankrupt. At that situation, how could you conduct out the liberalization? In terms of the financial reform. Our principle is that China has to feed itself by its own agricultural production . Basically, China can feed itself. If you want the good foundation in agriculture, you need sound financial support. Rural credit cooperatives is very important. For them: money capital in exchange for sound financial reforms. For now, Chinese banks are very profitable, capital reserve ratio is high. If you look at the top 10 banks in the SS, the top 3/4 are from China. 4th consideration: central bank changes from direct intervention to market oriented monetary tool. Direct intervention means approval first and quota second. Gradually we built up monetary tools: open market operation, etc. 5th consideration: exchange rate reform. There are a lot of debate about China exchange rate regime in the past decade. We started to consider the exchange reform on 2002. When governor Zhou became the Governor of the central bank. Before we reform it, we have to have the banking reform, and we need to relax some foreign exchange control. If you say the demand and supply should determine the exchange rate, but where is the market at that time? you have to establish exchange rate market first. We established stock market, etc, those are the homework we need to do. Since 2005 up to now, RMB's flexibility has been increased, the nominal exchange rate has been appreciated 30%. A good news, in the past 4 quarters the central bank has little control on the exchange rate and the official reserves in the past 5 quarters has been flat. 6th consideration: how to ** the access to liquidity.There is one problem. In the process in conducting monetary policy, Chinese central bank bought a lot of US dollar, in order to buy those we actually injected RMB in the system. The other method is using the government bonds. Another instrument, we increased required reserve ratio. It's a very old instrument for most central bank. But in China, it's a very important way. We increase it to absorb the extra liquidity in the market. From 2003 to 2010, 36 times, including 32 increase and 4 decrease. 7th consideration: interest rate liberalization and how we use the spread of interest rate. Right now, central bank control over in interest rate is much less than most people thought. We control the ceiling of deposit rate and floor of lending rate. And all the market rates are liberalized, including money market rate, bond market rate, trust fund rate, etc. Money market fixed income rate inter banking rate are all liberalized. Shanghai Interbank Interest rate, SIBOR (the Chinese version of LIBOR). We think SIBOR is successful so far. We have a set of rules and methods to supervise the SIBOR to encourage banks to tell the truth. We compare the report SIBOR and market SIBOR and check the discrepancies. Also deposit and lending spread is very important to avoid credit crunch and over lending. We need to consider internal andexternalmarket. 8th consideration: how monetary policy respond to global market crisis. Those 8 points are main points in Governor Zhou's paper.
