Act, 就是“行为，举动”的意思，follow 表示“跟随”，so a hard act to follow, means someone who is so impressive that it is difficult for anyone else who comes after them to be as good. 就是说“一个人太优秀了，其他人很难和他们一样”，所以就是个人能力令人望尘莫及。

比如：滑雪冠军特别优秀，我们就可以说：She's a hard act to follow. 公司里的主管特别有能力，我们也能说：The manager is truly a hard act to follow.

发音
