这是要求: A. Description (15%)
For each year calculate the mean values of FDI per capita and exports per capita for your sample of 90 countries, for the whole sample and also distinguishing OECD and non-OECD countries. Describe trends in the means of these variables (total and by OCED/nonOECD group) – these can be based on plots of the data (of the calculated means) or average annual growth rates (of the calculated means) or both.
B. Summary of hypothesis testing and regression analysis (15%)
Summarise the results from assignments 2 and 3. Describe what you can conclude regarding differences between OECD and non-OECD countries.
C. Panel Regressions (55%)
Transform your data to the format required for panel analysis. Add the country and year dummies from the file dummies.xls [in the Essay folder on your WebCT].
Perform the following regressions on the natural logs of each variable (Export (X); Stock (S); Population (P)):
(i)
X on S and P
(ii)
X on S and P and country dummies
(iii)
X on S and P, country dummies and time dummies.
Comment on the coefficient values, significance of the coefficients, R2 and adjusted R2
In regression (iii) include the interactive variable for FDI calculated for assignment 3 (constructed by multiplying D by S, where D = 1 for OECD and D = 0 for non-OECD countries). Comment on the interpretation of the coefficient values, significance of the coefficients, R2 and adjusted R2.
D. Conclusion (15%)
Summarise what you have learnt about the relationship between exports and FDI. Discuss what additional quantitative variables might be useful to include in the analysis and discuss if you think supplementing this with qualitative data would be useful.
