Before reading this article, I think the bailouts were subidies given by the government, which would never be paid later, something as grants for enterprises in China. Now, I know the government can increase its share in an enterprise to rescure it. And the shares can be sold later.
Maybe the US government is really lack of money now, so it want to get repaid as soon as possible. Otherwise, I think such bailouts are wise policies, because stock price is very low in crisis, and the amount of government investment can be relatively small compared to the same share in a booming market. When the economy recovers, the stock price is sure to rise, and sale of these shares is profitable to the government.
