Here are a couple of things you can do to find out the 'big name' in the discipline of your interest.
Find a copy of the leading journal (eg. international journal of data mining and bioinformatics) of your area, and look up the names in the editorial board. Those are usually the renowned scholars.
Look for the advisory board of annual conference. The board members are the actively leaders.
Look for the work groups that have done some good work of your knowledge.
If no name is big enough, put yourself in that 'vacant' position.
