Euro-zone has appointed the candidate, and it holds over a third of the votes on the IMF’s board. The emerging economies have not reach agreements on the candidate. U.S. wants to be powerful both in the World Bank and IMF, but it does not have candidate surpassing Christine Lagarde.

Although there are other people who could do the job, they are not perfect. It seems the boss of IMF will be Christine Lagarde unless U.S. and the emerging economies unify to contend against the euro-zone.

Well, the presidents of World Bank and IMF are always the game of very few elites defined by the developed countries. Lin Yifu is currently a Chinese who are most close to that elite circle but never had the chance to be in the circle. Kahn's trial of sexual harrasment gave Legarde a merit, but just as the last passage told us that there are some near qualified candidates from NON EU countries, they are equally good as Legarge, but they did't own the same chances as Lagarde because they were not in G8. The developping countries has represented an bigger share of lending . As you don't want the biggest borrowers in charge , why do you want european to be in charge ?

Some Europeans have tried to argue that only one of their own can understand their continent’s complex politics. Therefore, they want a European as the IMF’s leader. Ironic, isn’t it? Monopoly is not efficient. More new emerging countries want their voices heard. Yes, international posts should be filled according to merit. Whoever has the ability should take it.
