Sometimes,"free trade" itself has always been the mantra of the rich and powerful to swindle less developed economies. During the early 19th century Britain wanted the US to practise free trade, and was told by Andrew Jackson that, sure, the US also believed in free trade, but only when it had the centuries of preparation the industrialized British had. After WW2, the Cold War played a part in ensuring a fairer deal - in the form of GATT - for poor countries, but that came to an end when the USSR dissolved, and when, despite the more West-friendly WTO, countries such as China and India began to take off. DOHA, the latest attempt by poorer nations to salvage some protection, is thus seen as an obstacle to western economic hegemony.

But the international trade is not as good as I use to believe. I once read about a report talk about the environmental cost of the trade. Most time, the trade did not benefit human a lot if we count the environmental cost or other opportunity cost.
