第一篇:Financial liberalization and governance in the developing world(Yale University)
Abstract
Financial Liberalization and Governance in the Developing W orld
Economists argue that financial liberalization is efficient and welfare-enhancing. In
theory, countries that liberalize should realize higher rates of growth and income equality.
However, the empirical record is mixed. And while developing countries have opened
their borders over the last two decades, many countries retain significant restrictions on
the flow of capital. My project provides theoretically new and methodologically more
rigorous answers to familiar questions: What explains Jinancialliberalization around the
world? And how has liberalization impacted governance in developing countries?
Using an original global data set on financial openness that covers more than 150

Abstract
This paper is part of a larger research program pertaining to the role of
derivatives during financial crisis and also part of the research pertaining to the causes

detailed data set available of all transactions by different types of protagonists,
including foreign investors.
Several authors including Kim and Wei (1999), Park and Song (1999) and
Radelet and Sachs (1998) put the blame for the Asian crisis on foreign investors.
Choe, Kho and Stulz (1999), who focused exclusively on equity trading in the Korean
stock market, found no evidence supporting...................
