Now I have to use SPSS to analyze my data. I have attended the SPSS training course in June but I still have some problems in the data analysis. Could you please spend a couple of minutes on answering my questions. I believe your answer will be a great help to me.

The nature of variables in the research is of ordinal so I intend to use Spearman’s rho to explore the correlation between different variables. I know Spearman correlation is a non-parametric. Does it mean that normality is not required to check? And should I do the linear -by-linear association test before data analysis in order to guarantee the correlation is linear?

The study has three Variables, A, B, C and D, I have to explore the correlation between A and D,   B and D,   C and D respectively, D has only one indicator, A has 4 indicators, B has 2 indicators, C has 3 indicators.  (n=106)
The correlation results of each indicator with the D (include only indicator) are as follows:
A:  ρ1=0.310, P<=0.01;  ρ2=0.307, P<=0.01;  ρ3=0.351, P<=0.01;  ρ4=0.176,
Three indicators have positive correlation with D at the 0.01 level
B:  ρ1=0.182;  ρ2=0.307, P<=0.01;
One indicator has positive correlation with D at the 0.01 level
C: ρ1=0.310, P<=0.5;  ρ2=0.307, P<=0.5;  ρ3=0.049
Told wo indicators have positive correlation with D at the 0.5 level
Could you please tell me how can I figure out which variable has the strongest correlation with D, which have the second, and the least?
