Private companies can immediately benefit from XBRL in three areas:
business intelligence, competitive analytics, and risk management.

1.        Business intelligence: Mine your own XBRL-tagged data from CRM, ERP, BPM, sales, and various financial systems to get more accurate, complete, and consistent results faster. Once data has been tagged for XBRL, your tools won’t overlook any pertinent data.

2.        Competitive insight: Ue XBRL to search and analyze the filings of publicly held competitors. The XBRL reports demanded by the SEC are available to you to search. With XBRL, you will get all the data, even if it is buried in the smallest footnote.

3.        Risk management: Mary Knox, a Gartner analyst, put it this way: “XBRL has unique features not found in other standards initiatives that can be used to better manage risk. Financial services firms should take advantage of the increasing viability of XBRL for risk management functions requiring information accessibility, validation, analysis, and communication.”
