Introducing #TheIntelligentWeb
While Web2.0 enabled user participation and consequently led to an
explosion in usage and pages on the Internet, we believe the state that
social networking companies have reached with their platforms is ushering
in the third generation of the web, one we refer to as the intelligent web.
What makes this era’s application fundamentally different is that for the
first time the internet is using intelligence (via a filter provided by social
networks’ data) to automatically provide personalization. In our view, the
resulting push vs pull functionality offers the second disruption in an
online user’s ability to discover information efficiently (the first being
search) and the word of mouth like capability that comes from the power to
make suggestions based on friends’ activities, makes online discovery
much more similar to the offline world.
