胡副主席，非常感谢您的欢迎致辞。非常感谢您在这里接待我和我的夫人劳拉。

　　非常感谢各位对我的热情接待，很荣幸来到中国，清华大学是世界最伟大的学府之一。我也知道清华大学对于胡副主席有着十分重要的意义，他不仅在这里获得了学位，而且是在这里与他优雅的夫人相识的。我想同时也感谢在座的各位学生给我这个机会，跟大家见面，谈一谈我自己的国家，并且回答大家的一些问题。

I see she's keeping pretty goodcompany with the secretary of state, Colin Powell.

It's good to see you, Mr. Secretary.

And I see my national securityadviser, Ms. Condoleezza Rice, who at one time was the provost of StanfordUniversity, so she's comfortable on university campuses such as this. Thank youfor being here, Condi.

I'm so grateful for the hospitalityand honored for the reception at one of China's and the world's great universities.This university was founded, interestingly enough, with the support of mycountry, to further ties between our two nations. I know how important thisplace is to your vice president. He not only received his degree here but, moreimportantly, he met his gracious wife here.

I want to thank the students forgiving me the chance to meet with you, the chance to talk a little bit about mycountry, and answer some of your questions.
