     鮑利写了英国第一本现代统计学教材（英国是数理统计的发祥地），也可以说是世界第一！
     鲍利出生在英国的布里斯托(Bristol)，在剑桥大学攻读数学。他的第一个工作是从1893到1899年，在索立(Surrey)的利兹海德(Leatherhead)之圣约翰学学院(St. John’s School)担任数学教师，并於这段期间开始对统计学產生兴趣。1985年，鲍利到新成立的伦敦经济学院(London School of Economics)夜间部教授统计学课程，1919年被选為该学院新成立的统计系的讲座教授，直到1936年退休。他对抽样技术应用在经济和社会调查方面有相当重要的贡献，并写了一本著名的教科书「基础统计学」(Elements of Statistics)，这本书从1910年发行第一版到1937年共发行七版。另外，博弈论中还有以他命名的BOWLEY模型。Bowley将概率论的思想引入，提出“随机抽样理论”。最先提出缺失数据问题的人是Bowley。1938到1940年间，鲍利担任英国皇家统计协会的会长，并在1895年获得协会的盖伊(Guy)银质奖章，1935年获得金质奖章。1957年1月21日卒於英国索立的黑索米尔(Haslemere)。
        1937 年, 上海商务印书馆分4册出版了李植泉博士的译著 鮑利的统计学原理 , 是万有文库第2集, 有汉译世界名著之称。原著为A.L. Bowley 于1901 年所著Elements of Statistics 4ed。

       旧数理统计学派经济统计派的创始者英人埃奇沃思( F . Y . .g ew o r th ) 曾论述统计学
就是“ 平均数科学” 。经济统计派的前期代表人物英统计学家鲍利( A ·L. B o w ley ) 继承埃
氏统计学说, 更明确指出“统计学是计算平均数的科学” 。他们都是当时主张运用数理统计
方法来研究社会经济问题的代表人物, 他们的观点决不是只限于研究自然技术方面, 同样也
适用于研究社会经济方面。可见平均方法在作为一门方法论的统计学中, 地位十分重要。本
文就此加以论述。

Arthur Bowley 经济学家、统计学家。 Roy G.D. Allen 经济学家 Allen和Bowley合作完成了对人群消费习惯的研究。这是经验微观经济学的一大突破。在这一研究中使用的方法，被称为Allen-Bowley method。具体该研究方法是什么样的，我不是业内人士，无法详细说明，见谅。

       英国是经济学强国，在经济计量学会中占据重要位置，经济计量学会主席是全球经济学界万众瞩目的位置，英国在这个位置上已经有13人次担任过经济计量学会主席，其中BOWLEY、凯恩斯都2次出任，除了20世纪60年代和90年代没有英国人出任经济计量学会主席外，其他各个时代都有英国人出任经济计量学会主席。可见英国经济学实力之强。以下是经济计量学会历史上的英国人主席，其中阿玛蒂亚.森实际上作为印度人，一直是印度国籍，尽管他自剑桥大学获得经济学博士后，长期在英国牛津大学、美国哈佛大学任教。因此，实际只有10个英国人担任过经济计量学会主席。
