Personally, I think it would be more straight-forward to understand education system overseas(in North America specifically) as a corporation to serves students. If you really like studying but find it a little difficult to get an offer from top universities in China, apply for an university overseas. Foreign Universities' "Core Business" is to serve students for studying and research. You will be offered with a perfect environment to grab something into your brain - peaceful, passinate and quiet environment and infinite amount of resources. After graudation, no matter you go back to your home country or not, your university memory will keep you company for the rest of your life, hopefully =P. But, please keep in mind, you will be kinda "over-proteced" by your university. Ironically, students can graduate with A+ GPA and Dean's Honor Degree but superficial understanding of the complexity of society and career, as universities serve them so well and do almost everything other than study for them. Also, I have to admit there is a certain group of students, they are paying hundred-thousdands of dollors only in exchange for a shining degree to put into their profile. Getting admitted by universities with good reputation and high rankings is much easier in North America than in China. So if a degree from Ivy League is very important for you to build your resume, then studing abroad may be a good choice.
