Originally trained as an economist at the University of Minnesota (Ph.D.) and Yonsei University (B.A), Eugene Yun’s professional journey has taken him through many key areas of economics, finance and business. Prior to joining Ewha, he was Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia in Canada from 1987-91. Upon returning to Korea in 1991, he worked as Editorial Writer and Senior Economist at Maeil Kyungje Shinmoon, Korea’s leading economic daily, and as Korea Research Director and Chief Regional Economist for Asia at Schroder Securities. From 1996-98 he was Country Head of Deutsche Morgan Grenfell Korea, the investment banking arm of Deutsche Bank. In 1998, together with Mr. George Soros, he co-founded Soros Consultants Inc., a private Seoul-based financial company specializing in private equities investments and exclusively affiliated with Soros Fund Management and the Quantum Group of Funds. He also served as Adjunct Professor at Kyunghee University and sits on the Boards of numerous companies.
