The rapid technological progress in information processing technology
is changing every aspect of our lives. The financial markets cannot escape
this technological impact. Investing and trading has shifted from
the old paradigm of watching quote screens, calling a broker to place an order,
and then waiting for a call with the order fill, to a new paradigm, based
on real-time chart displays, electronic screen trading, and direct market
access with fast executions.
Equally rapid are the advancements in the quantity and quality of information
available to investors and traders as well as in the software applications
for processing and analyzing it. Despite all the advancements made,
traders and investors are still faced with the same old dilemma: buy, sell,
