Dear Colleague,

As Editor-in-Chief of the open access journal, Climate (ISSN 2225-1154), I am pleased to announce the launch of the 2017 Climate Travel Award for Young Scientists in climate and atmospheric sciences. The award is 800 Swiss Francs to be used for the awardee to travel to an international conference in 2017.

Graduate students currently pursuing Ph.D. degrees in climate and atmospheric sciences at an accredited college or university are eligible to apply for this award. The applicants must meet the following eligible requirements:

1.      The applicant must be enrolled full-time in a qualified graduate program with the Ph.D. as their degree objective;
2.      The applicant will attend an international conference in 2017 to present her/his research in climate and atmospheric sciences as the first author for an oral or a poster presentation;
3.      The applicant’s primary graduate thesis advisor must provide a letter of support.

The required application material include:

a. CV, including GPA and a complete list of publications and conference presentations.
b. The conference that you plan to attend along with location, time, and the 1-page abstract of your poster or oral presentation (Times New Roman, 12-pt, 1-in margin for each side, and single space).
c. A statement of your current and future research work and how the participation of this conference would benefit your career development (no more than 600 words).
d. A letter of recommendation from your primary graduate thesis advisor to be sent directly to climate@mdpi.com with the subject "Application for the 2017 Climate Young Scientists Travel Awards – the applicant’s name".

The application deadline is 15 October 2016. Eligible candidates are encouraged to submit the required material to climate@mdpi.com with the subject "Application for the 2017 Climate Young Scientists Travel Awards - the applicant’s name" by/on 15 October 2016.

The winners will be announced on the Climate website by November 2016 and the awardee is asked to acknowledge the travel support from the journal Climate in their presentations.

Please find additional details at the Travel Award’s website and help distribute this information to your colleagues and students.

We look forward to receiving your nominations and applications!
