System dynamics (SD) is an approach to understanding the nonlinear behaviour of complex systems over time using stocks, flows, internal feedback loops, and time delays.

• MIT Sloan School Professor John Sterman's book Business Dynamics: Systems thinking and modeling for a complex worldprovide introductionfor the analysis of policy and strategy by using SD method, with an emphasis on business and public policy applications.
• SD is both a conceptual tool and a powerful modeling method. This allows the building of computer simulations of complex systems. The simulations can then be used to test the effectiveness of different policies on business outcomes.
