Description:The University of Sydney Business School and Rich Data Corporation (RDC) are in collaboration offering a PhD scholarship to work on a joint PhD project in financial research. The candidate will be based in the Discipline of Finance within the University of Sydney Business School. The finance discipline is internationally recognised for its innovative business education, industry engagement, and high-impact research. Our graduates are sought after by some of the premier investment banks, fund managers and securities brokers in the world.
Driven by the new wave of financial technology innovations, global financial industry has high demand for relevant financial research and skilled talents. RDC is a financial technology company with its successful developments in social media data analysis, credit risk and online lending products. RDC is led by a team of highly regarded industry leaders with extensive market experience throughout Asia-Pacific region. In addition to the financial support, RDC is keen to support the research project with its breath of industry insights, technology platform as well as guidance from its senior management.
Eligibility:
The scholarship is for a research student interested in topic areas such as financial market and technology, financial media and asset pricing, online lending platform, credit risk and fraud detection, and innovative ways of financial analysis and valuation.
We encourage applications from graduates in finance, economics/econometrics, financial mathematics, or IT/computer science and engineering. The research work will require skills in financial data analysis, quantitative model building and testing. Programming skill in Python, Java, or R is desirable. Candidates will receive research training through the Business School’s research training program.
The successful applicant will also need to meet the academic entry requirements and follow the procedures for enrolment in the University of Sydney Business School Higher degree by Research program (http://sydney.edu.au/business/study/research/entry_requirements). Candidates must commence by 27 July 2017 (Research Period 3). The award cannot be deferred.
Amount awarded:
The scholarship is valued at $32,000 per annum (tax exempt) and may be renewed for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress. The scholarship is paid as a stipend on a fortnightly basis. This scholarship does not cover any tuition fees payable by candidates although exceptional international applicants may be considered for a fee award. There are also funding opportunities to attend one conference per year and other expenses linked to the PhD program.
